How to setup a child form in Axonator

Child forms in Axonator allow you to nest one form within another, reducing repetitive fields and streamlining data collection. Here’s a step-by-step guide to set up a child form:

Step 1: Create the Parent Form

  1. Go to form builder at builder.axonator.com
  2. Create a new form that will serve as your parent form (e.g., “Building Details”)
  3. Add all necessary fields to this form

Step 2: Create the Child Form

  1. Create another new form in the form builder
  2. Design this form to serve as your child form (e.g., “Floor Details”)
  3. Add all necessary fields to this child form

Step 3: Add Child Form to Parent Form

  1. Go back to the parent form
  2. Add a child record field to the parent form’s canvas
  3. Select the child record field in the properties panel on the right side of the screen
  4. In the properties, find the “Child Form” dropdown
  5. Select the name of the child form you created in Step 2
  6. Save the parent form

Step 4: Test the Form

After saving, test the form to ensure the child form is correctly nested within the parent form.

Example Use Case

Parent Form: Building Details Child Form: Floor Details

Instead of creating separate fields for each floor’s information, users can add multiple floor details using a single child form within the Building Details form.

By following these steps, you can successfully add a child form to your main form in Axonator, enhancing your data collection efficiency and form organization. This approach allows for more flexible and efficient data entry, especially when dealing with repeating sets of information.
